About Vicki Caucutt
After being employed as a counselor for over 28 years I retired to pursue my passion for painting. I have been an Artist since childhood and the creative process has influenced everything I have accomplished in life. My formal art training began in the 70's taking classes at Madison Wisconsin Area Technical College while raising two sons. I studied drawing, acrylic and watercolor painting. I continued to take painting workshops off and on throughout the years. Not until my husband Steve and our sons Jason and Justin moved from Wisconsin to North Pole Alaska in 1985 did I begin to look at my art as more than just a hobby. I was able to establish myself to some degree as a serious artist while integrating art into my career as a counselor. In 1998 my husband and I moved to Belen, New Mexico and I began painting and experimenting with the Southwest landscape. My preference has become working in oils, although I still do some work in acrylic and watercolor and find myself breaking away from painting to create assemblages using found objects. My personal belief is that we are all artists doing our best to create our most important piece of art titled, A Life. In life and in work we all strive to fit the pieces of our lives together in a meaningful way. For me, the creative process usually starts with an idea inspired by nature either while on a walk, a mule ride or in a dream. Nature has always proved a wonderful teacher. The years spent in Alaska greatly influence many of my paintings and it can be seen in the subject matter and color schemes. I often dream of the Northern Lights and the snow falling, both are very sacred to me. I never succeed to fully capture the image that I envisioned. However, the process of painting-- and creating something that will enrich the life of the viewer --is ultimately the reward. I hope that in some small way my art will enrich your day.
